This training course links strategic planning with practical budgeting, cost control, and performance management. Across five days, participants build an end-to-end toolkit that covers cost analysis, operating and capital budgeting, variance analysis, dashboards, and rolling forecasts, so they can plan, monitor, and adapt with confidence.

Day 2

Cost analysis for planning and control

  • Cost behaviour, fixed versus variable, step costs and CVP analysis
  • Contribution margin, break-even and operating leverage
  • Cost allocation, indirect costs, cost hierarchy and drivers
  • Traditional costing versus Activity-Based Costing, Activity-Based Budgeting and Activity-Based Management
  • Target costing and Kaizen costing for continuous improvement
  • Exercise: diagnose over or under costing and propose a refined costing approach
Day 3

Building the budget pack

  • Forecasting sales and costs, data quality and assumptions log
  • Operating budgets: production, labour, overheads and SG&A
  • Capital expenditure budgeting and project appraisal links
  • Cash-flow budgeting, working capital planning and seasonality
  • Scenario, sensitivity and risk analysis with driver tables
  • Workshop: assemble an integrated operating and cash budget with a capex annex

  • Standard costing and flexible budgets
  • Responsibility accounting and performance reports

  • Lab: build a monthly performance pack and write a one-page narrative

From fixed budgets to adaptive management

  • Rolling forecasts and driver-based planning
  • Forecast accuracy, bias monitoring and forecast discipline
  • Balanced Scorecard and integrated performance measurement
  • Beyond Budgeting ideas and what to adopt in a practical setting
  • Capstone case: redesign a legacy budget process into an adaptive cycle, including calendar, roles, templates and governance
  • Personal action plan and implementation checklist

  • On successful completion of this training course, GLOMACS Certificate will be awarded to the delegates.
  • Continuing Professional Education credits (CPE): In accordance with the standards of the National Registry of CPE Sponsors, one CPE credit is granted per 50 minutes of attendance.
